Democrats have had a lock on this district for many election cycles, so the winner of the three-way Democratic primary is heavily favored to beat Republican Mitch Swoboda, who is unopposed on the GOP side, in the November general election.

Samantha Steckloff, 36, is serving her second-term as a Farmington Hills city councilwoman. She faces two other council members: Michael Bridgesa 63-year-old retired marketing executive; and Randal Bruce, a 60-year-old child psychologist.

All three candidates bring long records of public service to the contest, and each possesses a sophisticated understanding of the state's most urgent issues; any of them would serve capably.
